The drink, reputedly, was named after Troy Alexander, a bartender at Rector’s, New York’s premier pre-prohibition lobster palace, who created the drink in order to serve a white drink at a dinner celebrating Phoebe Snow, the fictional character lady who gave glamour to train travel in the early 20th century.
